Dog Training & Behaviour Intervention

  • The incorporation of Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) Effective Behaviour Intervention strategies
  • Using the Humane Hierarchy as a guide, which serves to guide professionals in their decision-making process during training and behaviour modification. Additionally, it assists owners and animal care professionals in understanding the standard of care to be applied in determining training practices and methodologies and the order of implementation for applying those training practices and methodologies.
  • Helping clients find ways to communicate more effectively with their dog or cat and interpret their pet's behaviour
  • Teaching clients how to reinforce a desired  alternative behaviour rather than purposefully suppressing the unwanted behaviour
  •  Using positive reinforcement, counter conditioning and systematic desensitisation techniques
  • With many issues - you will learn how to discover why your dog/cat is behaving the way they do, and learn gentle ways to determine  desired behavioural outcomes via practical easy to learn processes
  • Extra dogs are free!
  • Some trainers use  e-collars, ( currently forecast to be banned in legislation   Feb 24) prong collars or choke chains.
These practises are not used by DogWalkersN8

Behaviour can be defined as anything that someone does that can be measured, whether they are human animals or non-human ones. It can be easy for us to misinterpret the behaviour of non-human animals, either assuming that it has little or no meaning or something else entirely unrelated to what it is.  However, behaviour doesn't occur in a vacuum and cannot occur without meaning, as it is influenced and shaped by the environment it sits within.
The environment, in relation to behaviour, can be inside the organism or outside of it. For example, behaviour is a mechanism to express a response to external stimuli such as sounds, smell, touch, taste and sights, and smells, as well as internal stimuli such as emotional states and internal motivations, and therefore always has meaning.

The three-term contingency is a way to describe the relationship between a behaviour and the environmental variables that evoke it. Known in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) as the ABCs of behaviour and an acronym for Antecedents, Behaviour and Consequence Using the ABCs can provide an effective approach in helping to understand behaviour and develop strategies for changing undesired behaviour by incorporating positive reinforcement.
Positive reinforcement is used in ABA to reinforce the wanted behaviour so that the behaviour is more likely to be repeated in the future,    and this is why it’s becoming more widely adopted with those working with dogs as well as other animals. By identifying and altering the antecedents and consequences, we can change the behaviour to a more appropriate one rather than suppressing it

In Your  Consultation
The Functional Assessment

Teaching clients the ABCs
  • Antecedents ( the things that happen before the behaviour occurs or conditions that exist)
  • Behaviour (describing what their dog or cat is doing  rather than attaching labels)
  • Consequence (What comes after and supports the behaviour being repeated in the future
  • The Process of Analysing the ABC's
  • Assess the antecedents, behaviour and consequence and the functions/ purpose of the behaviour
  • Incorporate alternative antecedents and/or consequences to change or train new behaviours
  • Monitor & Review the objectives against outcomes
